Did you ever want to write in the “Armenian Western
Phonetic” keyboard layout instead of “Armenian Western Legacy” or some other
Armenian keyboard layout? Now you can! Click to Download the file, and
after installing it you will enjoy typing in a layout where the aspects of
transliteration and transcription of the Western Armenian language have been
taken into consideration. Thus, 26 Armenian letters have been directly mapped
to the English characters. Moreover, digits from 0 to 9 have been utilized as a
fourth row, ensuring an optimized dispersion of characters for better typing
practice. The latter has been realized based on the resemblance each character
represents towards the given digit. The two remaining outliers have been assigned
to the square brackets, thus completing the set of the Armenian Alphabet.
Concerning the punctuation, the same principles of equivalence and resemblance
were used to make a match. Overall, every effort was made in order to minimize
the differences from the English keyboard layout. The characters forcibly
replaced by the Armenian counterparts were compensated by the AltGr key, such
that pressing the AltGr key (Right Alt Key, or Ctrl+Alt), will give you access
to digits and other symbols, avoiding the necessity to switch back and forth
between layouts.
Below we present you the “Armenian Western Phonetic”
keyboard layout with its unshifted, shifted, AltGr, AltGr+Shift states. The
“English (US)” keyboard layout is also displayed for your reference.
